Endovascular Medicine

Endovascular medicine can treat many conditions of the heart and arteries with innovative minimally invasive procedures. Traditional methods of treating cardiovascular disease involve open heart procedures that are no longer necessary for many conditions. Instead, a small incision is made and a tool is inserted into the blood vessel to help repair any damage.

Some advantages of endovascular procedures include faster recovery, reduced pain, and the use of local anesthesia instead of general anesthesia. Minimally invasive procedures carry fewer risks to the patient than open heart surgery, and Dr. Kokanovic is skilled in the latest techniques of endovascular surgery.

Endovascular procedures include:

  • Angioplasty and stent
    • Peripheral arterial system
    • Lower extremities
    • Upper extremities
    • Carotid arteries
    • Subclavian arteries
    • Renal arteries
  • Peripheral artery balloon angioplasty and stent
  • Peripheral artery atherectomy using laser, fox-hallow cutter, orbital atherectomy (CSI)
  • Experience with cryotherapy with cryo-balloons and drug-eluting balloons
  • Endovascular aneurysm repair with endografts
  • Complex peripheral percutaneous work including the use of re-entry devices such as Pioneer and Outback catheters for chronic total occlusions (CTO)
